Tax warning for delinquent property owners in Clarendon, St Catherine

Published:Thursday | September 19, 2013 | 6:01 PM

Delinquent property owners in Clarendon and St Catherine are being put on alert as tax authorities intensify their drive to collect outstanding property taxes.

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will be focusing on those parishes as part of its compliance programme.

The TAJ has been hauling property tax dodgers before the courts to recover outstanding sums.

It says last month 112 summonses were served on delinquent property owners in Manchester and 58 to persons in St Elizabeth.

The TAJ says that action resulted in the collection of more than $2 million in Manchester and more than $320,000 in St Elizabeth.

It adds that more cases are still before the court so it is likely that this figure will go up.

The tax authorities are encouraging land owners in Clarendon and St Catherine with outstanding property taxes to urgently make arrangements to pay to avoid being brought before the court.
