Comrades gather for PNP's 75th conference

Supporters of the governing People's National Party (PNP) are filing into the National Arena in Kingston as they gather for the public session of the party's 75th annual conference.

PNP president Portia Simpson Miller is expected to address supporters in a little under an hour, during which she is expected to speak to a number issues relating to the contracting economy, crime and governance.

Political analyst Kevin O'Brien Chang says although the economy is the key issue for most Jamaicans, Simpson Miller will have to convince Jamaicans that her party is willing to tackle corruption.

Pointing to last week's resignation of State Minister in the Ministry of Transport Works and Housing Richard Azan, following a damning report on the illegal construction of shops in the Spaldings Market in Clarendon, Chang says Simpson Miller has an opportunity this afternoon to set the tone for the style of leadership she wishes to maintain.
