Trinidad bans wildlife hunting

Published:Monday | September 23, 2013 | 8:44 AM

The Trinidad and Tobago government has placed a two-year ban on hunting as it moves to protect and conserve wildlife resources.

The two-year ban takes effect with the 2013-2014 hunting season which will begin on October 1.

The government says during the ban, a survey would be conducted to get a scientific appreciation of the country’s existing wildlife and natural resources.

It says in addition to the ban, the Office of Attorney General is now reviewing the penalties and fines in the Conservation of Wildlife Act with a view to creating a deterrent to illegal hunting.
