Update: Steps taken to address concerns at St Catherine RM court following sick-out by workers

Published:Tuesday | September 24, 2013 | 8:07 AM

The Court Management Services says steps are being taken to address the concerns of staff at the St Catherine Resident Magistrate's Court who staged a sick-out yesterday.

The workers stayed off the job yesterday to protest what they say are poor working conditions and inadequate infrastructure.

They were particularly peeved about frequent water shortages, malfunctioning air conditioning units and the condition of the restrooms.

The Court Management Services says as a first step towards fixing the issues technicians have been brought in to conduct repairs on the malfunctioning AC units.

It says it is working to address the other infrastructure issues at the courthouse.

The organization notes that the St. Catherine Resident Magistrate’s Court is one of the facilities that it has identified as being in need of major infrastructural repairs or relocation.

The Court Management Services says discussions have been held with the Ministry of Justice, which has responsibility for such projects and it expects speedy action.
