The Meteorological Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert effective until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

An area of disturbed weather has formed over the southwestern Caribbean Sea and is expected to influence the weather across Jamaica over the next two days.

Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms south of Jamaica. These showers and thunderstorms are forecast to drift towards the northwest and impact sections of southern and northeastern parishes over the next 12 to 24 hours and the entire island thereafter.

Fishers and other small craft operators should exercise caution as strong, gusty winds are expected in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms south of the island.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.
