Tanker drivers, energy ministry haulage rates talks today

Published:Wednesday | October 2, 2013 | 8:47 AM

Tanker drivers represented by the National Workers Union (NWU) are to meet with officials at the Mining and Energy Ministry this morning as they seek to secure a new pay package from Petroleum Haulage Contractors.

The parties have been at odds since June when the previous contract expired.

Last week, the approximately 200 drivers withdrew their services to protest the absence of an agreement.

The protest action affected the delivery of petroleum products to some gas stations across the island.

The tanker drivers want a rate increase but the haulage contractors say they cannot afford to pay more.
