The Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week 2013 was launched in a spirited function this evening at City Life Ministries on High Holborn Street in downtown Kingston.

Under the theme 'Raise a Fork and Lift the City' scores of patrons gathered to begin the countdown to the November 8-16 Restaurant Week.

For that week there will be huge discounts on meals at 85 restaurants in Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and New York.

This evening, from the face painting at the Yellow Pages booth, to the 'Hula Cylinder' at Gas Pro's to The Gleaner's game centre, the young stars of the evening had their fair share of fun.

The highlight, however, was the food as patron's sought a preview of the Restaurant Week.

The formalities chaired by Restaurant Week organiser Stephanie Scott were short as it was a night about fun.

Carrington 'Peter' Morgan, executive director of City Life Ministries, thanked the Restaurant Week team and their sponsors for sharing in his vision for Southside.

Restaurant Week, Morgan noted, is about more than just food, it's about fellowship.

Morgan plans to transform a garage in Southside into a 24-hour community centre.

To help realise the dream, the sponsors of Restaurant Week pooled together and presented him with a cheque of $185,000 towards the project.
