The head of the Area One Police Assistant Commissioner Warren Clarke is reporting that two alleged gangsters were this morning shot dead in confrontations with law enforcers in St James and Westmoreland and five illegal firearms seized.

Clarke said in the first incident about 4:30 a.m. in the Gulf section of Norwood, St James, an alleged gangster confronted the police and was fatally shot and his weapon seized.

The gangster had been on bail after being charged for a triple murder.

The second incident happened in Alma district, Westmoreland where another man was killed after he reportedly challenged the police.

The police say four guns were seized in that operation.

According to Clarke, the police with assistance from the Jamaica Defence Force, were engaged in a major anti-gang operation in Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland and St James.

This morning's seizure of the illegal guns follows Sunday's discovery of four other weapons, including an assault rifle, in Birch Hill, St James.

In the meantime, Clarke is appealing to residents to remain calm and to assist the police by calling 952-2417 or 119 with information on the movement of criminals.
