Members of the media were this morning asked to leave the sitting of the Westmoreland parish council meeting.

During the meeting Savanna-la-Mar Mayor Bertel Moore requested that the media leave as the council had sensitive matters to discuss.

His request comes weeks after his highly publicised call for the police to adopt a shoot-first policy as part of efforts to control crime in the parish.

Prior to the mayor’s comment, sittings of the parish council meeting were open to the media and were broadcast live on a community radio station, as well as recorded by a local cable channel.

Mayor Moore’s shoot first comment has been completely omitted from the minutes of last month’s parish council meeting.
