No confidence motion against May Pen mayor fizzles
The highly anticipated no confidence motion against Mayor of May Pen Scean Barnswell fizzled in the Clarendon Parish Council today.
The motion of which minority leader Winston Maragh gave notice some two weeks ago at the council's Planning and Development Committee, was not even listed on the meeting’s agenda.
In expressing his dismay at the development, Maragh told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that he went to the bathroom for a few minutes and when he returned the meeting was adjourned.
He says when he went to the Secretary Manager to enquire why the motion was not on the agenda he was told that it was still at the Planning and Development department.
The defiant minority leader says he has asked that a special council meeting be called next month for the motion to be debated.
The May Pen Mayor has been under fire to resign over his role in the Spaldings Market affair.
The Contractor General, in his report on the matter alleged that Barnswell knowingly misled his office during its investigation.
He has been charged with attempting to mislead the contractor general and pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Barnswell has said he will not resign and will fight to clear his name.
