Clarendon Council passes motion for speedy end to double salary probe
The Clarendon Parish Council has passed a motion calling for a speedy resolution of the dual salary probe involving the council.
At today’s meeting councilors complained that the issue was being dragged out for too long and called for full disclosure on the matter.
People's National Party Councilor Godfrey Knight moved the motion saying the council would continue to be under a negative light the longer it takes to bring the matter to a close.
It had come to light that three Jamaican Labour Party councilors allegedly collected millions of dollars in salaries from three government ministries while serving as members of the Clarendon Parish Council.
Under Government guidelines, a civil servant cannot collect two salaries from the State.
Secretary Manager Rohan Blake, told the meeting that the council is not privy to the investigation because the probe is being undertaken by external entities.
The matter is being probed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Financial Investigation Division.
The Secretary Manager has promised that the council will write to the investigating entities requesting information.
