Doctors' reclassification hearing cancelled
The hearing into the application by public sector doctors who are challenging the government’s reclassification of the health sector has been postponed.
The matter was expected to begin in the Judicial Review Court today but has been rescheduled to Wednesday.
The application was filed by Jamaica Medical Doctors' Association (JMDA), which represents junior doctors.
The JMDA took the government to court for what it contends is its refusal to accept the association’s proposal on the reclassification, among other things.
The health sector reclassification was implemented on April 1.
Under the reclassification, nurses, midwives and other professionals in the health sector have seen an adjustment in their category and remuneration packages.
