Hundreds turn out to pay respect to George Lee

On a typically hot day in the Sunshine City, hundreds have turned out for the official funeral of former Portmore Mayor George Lee.

Dignitaries led by Environment Minister Bobby Pickersgill, representing Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, and Opposition Leader Andrew Holness are in attendance at the Power of Faith Ministries in the Portmore town centre.

Lee who was in his second stint as mayor of the Portmore municipality is being remembered as a true advocate for the people.

Custos of St Catherine Sophia Azan has said when the long-awaited hospital in Portmore is constructed, it will be named after George Lee.

Colin Fagan, state minister in the ministry of local government called Lee 'Mr Portmore'.

He said Lee who was 74, was an example to members of both sides of the political divide and said when the history of the municipality is written, his name will be prominent.
