Tributes flowed for former Mayor of the Portmore municipality George Lee, at his official funeral this morning.

Lee, considered the founding father of Portmore, was remembered as a visionary, mentor, and a man of unimpeachable character.

A wide cross-section of persons, from Members of Parliament and custodees to curious passers-by turned up at the Power of Faith Ministries in the Portmore Town Centre to bid farewell.

In reading the eulogy, Lee's sister Beverly Santouse, said he never lost the common touch and was not changed by praise.

Administrative Manager of the Portmore Municipal Council Kerry Chambers, said Lee never backed down from a challenge, and stood for what he felt was right and fair.

Elton Bruce, who was representing overseas groups with ties to Lee and the People's National Party, called for the people of Portmore to carry on the work.

Principal of the Portmore Community College Karen Hewitt-Kennedy lauded his commitment to keeping the municipality clean and for tirelessly advocating education.

Former Mayor Lee was serving his second stint as Mayor of Portmore when he died on September 29 in Florida after a period of illness.

He was 74.
