The Government is looking to speed-up the provision of energy saving solutions under its Public Sector Energy Efficiency and Conservation programme.

Principal Director in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Fitzroy Vidal, said the programme is fairly advanced.

Vidal says the ministry will make every effort this year to have the retrofitting of the entire public sector completed.

He was speaking at a Jamaica Information Service Think Tank recently to provide details about the Second Meeting of the Ministers of Energy of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The meeting is scheduled to be held between October 24 and 25 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.

Approximately $396 million was allocated in the 2012/13 estimates of expenditure for the Public Sector Energy Efficiency and Conservation programme, which was launched last May.

It is being funded by the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Development Bank and is expected to be concluded in December 2015.
