Tax Administration of Jamaica (TAJ) says it will be phasing in the mandatory filing of returns via the Internet as of March next year.

The TAJ says the move towards e-filing is a continued effort to enhance its capacity to more accurately capture data and develop an efficient tax system.

In this first phase, specific groups and persons will have to file their returns via the Jamaica Tax Portal at

Taxpayers with an annual turnover of at least $500 million will have to electronically file their general consumption tax, special consumption tax, income tax and employers’ annual returns.

The new e-filing requirement will also apply to all taxpayers with GCT refunds.

The TAJ says large taxpayers or persons or businesses with annual turnover greater than $500 million, are still encouraged to use the direct banking facility for payment.

The TAJ says it will be providing training support to persons identified in this first phase of the mandatory e-filing requirement.
