A suspect in the shooting death of Special Constable Arianna Henry remains under police guard.

The suspect, who was injured by a bullet fired by the police woman's colleague who was on location during the attack, was arrested when he turned up for treatment at hospital.

It is not clear how soon he will be questioned.

According to police reports, Henry, who was attached to the National Intelligence Bureau, was in the company of another police officer about 8:45 p.m., when a Toyota Corolla motor car with armed men aboard drove up and ordered them not to move.

The police say four men alighted from the vehicle and opened fire at the officers hitting Henry in the abdomen.

A Bryco Arms 9-millimetre pistol along with a magazine containing nine 9-millimetre rounds of ammunition was reportedly recovered from the scene of the shooting.

Henry's death brings to seven, the number of police officers murdered since the start of the year.

Her killing has been condemned by both National Security Minister Peter Bunting and Police Commissioner Owen Ellington.
