Member of Parliament for North Central Clarendon Pearnel Charles was an unlikely guest yesterday at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) meeting at which Audley Shaw was expected to continue his campaign for leadership of the party.

Charles has repeatedly declared his support for Andrew Holness to continue as the head of the JLP.

However, he said he showed up at the function in Western Park Clarendon at the invitation of Central Clarendon MP, Mike Henry.

Charles made sure to point out that he would not have invited Henry to such a meeting knowing Henry’s allegiance lies with Shaw.

He also said not everyone would have accepted such an invitation, but he said he decided to attend the function as he believes in democracy.

Charles also urged delegates to do the right thing at the party’s annual conference on November 10.

He then made a hasty exit shortly after speaking, saying he had another meeting to attend.
