Police warned to approach Jacques Road, Mountain View with caution

Published:Thursday | October 31, 2013 | 11:29 AM

The police say that Jacques Road in Mountain View Avenue, Kingston is now clear.

They had urged motorists to avoid the area this morning because of growing unrest.

They said residents had blocked a section of the road.

Members of the security forces are advised to approach the area with caution as several threats have been issued against them by residents.

There has been an upsurge of violence in Mountain View in recent days and on Monday a police operation in the area resulted in the shooting of a 19-year-old on Jarrett Lane.

The police say they were responding to heavy gunfire involving rival gangs when they came under fire from both gangs.

They say this triggered a shootout and that is when the teenager was hit.

However, residents later blocked the road in condemnation of the fatal shooting.

The police personnel who were involved in the shooting have been removed from frontline duty to facilitate a probe by the Independent Commission of Investigation.
