The Public Health Department has ordered the closure of two classroom blocks at the Tarrant High School in Kingston.

The decision was made following a visit by the health department’s inspection team this morning.

The South East Regional Health Authority has refused to disclose the nature of the health hazard.

During a visit to the institution last month, a Gleaner news team reportedly noticed what appeared to be mold in the ceiling of the grade-11 block, which has been leaking for some time.

In confirming the development, Director of Corporate Communications in the Education Ministry, Byron Buckley, said affected students have been relocated to a safer area.

Buckley says the Education Ministry is finalising procurement arrangements to have the affected areas urgently repaired.
