CRICKET: WI captain says team upbeat

West Indies captain Darren Sammy says his team will enter tonight’s start of the first Test against India at Eden Gardens with a positive frame of mind.

He says the team’s batsmen are particularly upbeat as they got the opportunity to spend quality time at the wicket in their warm-up match.

Sammy also outlines that the two-match series will be a real test for his charges but it is a challenge that they are up to.

The last time the West Indies won a Test against a higher ranked side was when they beat Pakistan two years ago in Guyana.

West Indies have also not won on the sub-continent since Courtney Walsh’s side prevailed over Mohammad Azharuddin’s side by 243 runs almost two decades ago at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
