Entire JLP shadow cabinet resigns

The entire Shadow Cabinet of the Jamaica Labour Party Labour Party has now resigned.

It follows Monday's resignation of Audley Shaw as the Opposition spokesman on finance and six of his key supporters who were also spokespersons on various portfolios and came a day after Shaw's election loss against incumbent Andrew Holness.

In a release a short while ago, Olivia Grange, head of the JLP's Public Relations committee after brief consultation among the remaining members of the Shadow Cabinet, it was decided that the Leader should be given a "free hand" to assemble his team.

“All positions that were appointed at the Leader's discretion should be vacated as a sign of respect for the mandate of the Leader," she said.

Grange said one reason for the challenge to Holness was that some members of the Parliamentary and Shadow Cabinet team had lost confidence in his leadership.

"That being the expressed view, it is only the principled thing that members offer their resignation to allow the Leader unfettered discretion in assembling a team which he is sure has confidence in his leadership," Grange said.
