'Azan's appointment should trigger debate on morality'

Published:Thursday | November 14, 2013 | 12:48 PM

Public affairs commentator Richard ‘Dickie’ Crawford says the swearing in of Azan should trigger a debate regarding the ethical issues which should bar politicians from remaining in office.

Crawford notes that there is no legal barrier to the reappointment of Azan following the DPP’s ruling that he had committed no crime.

He says the constitution lays out clearly the reasons for which a person can be removed from office and none of those apply in Azan’s case.

Crawford says there now needs to be a debate regarding whether non-legal breaches of the public trust should bar public officials from continuing in their posts.
