Bermuda has joined efforts from around the world to assist the people in the Philippines by pledging US$50,000 to the Bermuda Red Cross relief fund.

Bermuda has a large Filipino population.

The Philippines was hit by Typhoon Haiyan last Friday, displacing 11 million people.

Bermuda's Premier Craig Cannonier said that Bermudians, as fellow islanders, know the devastation that hurricanes can bring.

He added that the Filipino community is an integral and important part of Bermuda and the country understands and identifies with their anguish.
