Commish turns up the heat on firecracker peddlers for Christmas season

Police Commissioner Owen Ellington has directed his divisional commanders to ensure that there is increased vigilance for firecrackers and other pyrotechnic items in the lead up to the Yuletide season.

The directive, which was issued in this week’s Force Orders, comes as Ellington sought to warn of the dangers posed by the use of firecrackers.

He says persons found trading in these items should be prosecuted and their goods confiscated where they fail to produce the required licences.

Ellington also directed his divisional commanders to ensure that this is brought to the attention of police personnel during their briefings.

In addition to the risk of fires, the Commissioner says many persons find it difficult to differentiate between the explosions of firecrackers and that of a firearm.
