Alleged goat thieves mobbed, one killed
An alleged goat thief was killed and two of his cronies injured after they were attacked by a mob in Mocho, Clarendon yesterday.
The residents say they became suspicious after the men stopped at several shops pretending to do business.
Other community members and the police were alerted and a silver Toyota Corolla motor vehicle in which the men were travelling was intercepted.
It is reported that the men tried to escape but their car crashed into a fence and they had to abandon the vehicle.
The men then tried to run away but were chased by residents and two of them cornered and attacked in Mocho.
The third man ended up in the neighbouring community of Darlo, where his throat was slashed by a mob.
He died at hospital.
Meanwhile, the two men who were caught in Mocho received multiple injuries and have since been hospitalised.
Their identities have not been released.
The police say several goats were found in the trunk of the car in which the men were travelling.
Some residents have since claimed their animals from the police station.
According to one woman, six of her seven goats were among the goats found in the car.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Dave Powell, the sub-officer in charge of the Mocho Police Station, is warning criminals that they will be caught in his policing district.
