Government continues talks on railway service
Government will continue discussions with the Chinese government regarding the rehabilitation of Jamaica’s railway services, which was abandoned 15 years ago.
Transport Minister, Mike Henry, said he would be seeking to have the rail service linked to the country’s bus service.
Mr. Henry said a Chinese delegation is expected in the island next week Tuesday to continue the negotiations. Former PNP administration had negotiations with Rail India and Economic Services to resume the service.
However, the negotiations were later shelved following delays on the proposed joint venture. In 2005, the then PNP government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese government for the rehabilitation of the service.
