Changes coming for US Student/Exchange Visitor Program

Published:Thursday | November 21, 2013 | 12:41 PM

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is proposing changes to the requirements governing its Student and Exchange Visitor Program that are intended to improve management of programmes affecting Caribbean and other students.

The proposed changes also increase opportunities for study by spouses and children of non-immigrant Caribbean and other students.

Director of the programme Louis Farrell says the proposed changes stem from recommendations put forth by the US Department of Homeland Security’s Academic Advisory Council.

He says they also form part of a series of reforms designed to further the commitment to attracting Caribbean and other international students while maintaining national security standards.
