The Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell said the Government is determined to cut electricity rates by at least 30 per cent by 2016.

According to Paulwell, if Jamaica is to remain competitive, it must reduce electricity cost from 40 US cents per kilowatt hour to between 18 and 15 US cents.

In the meantime, Paulwell said citizens should try to be efficient in consuming electricity by using energy-saving devices, including incandescent bulbs.

Paulwell was addressing the lighting ceremony for the Brinkley-Links Hill area of south east St Elizabeth where more than 25 households received electricity for the first time.
