Guyanese nationals convicted in US on drugs related charges

Two Guyanese nationals have been found guilty in the United States of on drug related charges.



The Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency said 61-year-old Yugool Persaud and 54-year-old Desmond Wilson faces up to life in prison when they are sentenced next February.



US prosecutors led evidence during the trial that coast guard law enforcement personnel onboard a British Royal Fleet auxiliary ship observed a suspicious fishing vessel in a known drug trafficking corridor in the Caribbean Sea.



Prosecutors charged that they law enforcement agents called out to those onboard the fishing vessel they began throwing several white bales overboard.



Persaud and Wilson were reportedly detained after US Coast Guards recovered 1,265 kilograms of marijuana from the water.
