Latvia president calls supermarket roof collapse 'murder'
The President of Latvia Andris Berzins has described the collapse of a supermarket in the capital Riga on Thursday as murder.
The current death toll now stands at 54, but at least 10 families have told police they are still searching for missing relatives.
Berzins said many defenceless people were killed in Latvia’s deadliest disaster since it gained independence from Russia in 1991 and he said that should be the basis for the investigation.
Officials have theorised that the soil from a garden being built on the roof of the shop may have caused Thursday's collapse.
Latvia has begun three days of national mourning for those killed.
