Businessman and former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for Central Westmoreland, Russell Hammond, was this morning held up and robbed of an undetermined sum of money.

Hammond was accosted shortly after 10 o’clock this morning outside his establishment - Hammond’s Bakery.

The Westmoreland police say they are following strong leads to apprehend the culprits.

The Commanding Officer for Westmoreland, Superintendent Carol McKenzie, recently expressed concern about the increase in lotto scammers operating in the parish.

Within recent months, the police have reported that under pressure, lotto scammers are turning to robbery as a means of maintaining their flamboyant lifestyle.

Just last week in Montego Bay, Clifton Young, the owner of Flag Staff Bakery was shot dead along Barnett Street when two gunmen challenged him and robbed him of a sum of money he was taking to the bank.
