Man killed by garbage truck in Portland

The Portland police are investigating the circumstances, which led to the death of man, who was reportedly hit by a garbage truck along the Orange Bay main road shortly after 4 o' clock this morning.



The man, who is believed to be of an unsound mind, has been identified as 20-year-old Ramon Davis.



The police say that residents, who reportedly heard screeching tyres accompanied by a loud impact, went to investigate and found the nude body lying on the main road.



According to the police, the driver of the garbage truck, which is reportedly contracted out to the National Solid Waste and Emergency Management, gave a statement that he was driving along that thoroughfare when someone suddenly ran from a poorly lit area into the path of his vehicle.



The driver, who is still being questioned by the police, is reportedly still in shock, as this was the first incident of loss of life that he has encountered, since acquiring his driving license more than 20 years ago.



The police say he was subjected to a breathalyzer test given a warning notice.
