The public is being warned to be vigilant when purchasing pharmaceuticals, particularly Panadol Extra Strength Tablets, in a blue package, bearing the label 'made in China by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare'.

In a release the Ministry of Health says that 'Panadol' Tablets made in China by GlaxoSmithKline have not been approved for sale in Jamaica.

They say that the tablets have not been assessed for safety or quality.

In addition there are three cases of suspected parallel importation from unregistered sources for the following items: Betnovate Ointment 0.1% 30gr; Betnovate Cream 0.1% 30gr; Ventolin Syrup 2mg/5 ml.

The approved source of Panadol Tablets and the above-listed items for the Jamaican market is GlaxoSmithKline, Panama.

The public is reminded that the importation and sale of any pharmaceutical not approved by the Ministry of Health constitutes a breach of the Food & Drugs Act & Regulations which can attract sanctions.
