Caribbean observes World AIDS Day

The Caribbean has joined the rest of the global community in observing World AIDS Day.

In observance of the day, CARICOM has issued a reminder to the region of the commitment to work towards creating the conditions for equitable access to adequate healthcare for every citizen.

In his message to mark the day, Secretary General of CARICOM Irwin Laroque hailed the work of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) for the strides made in confronting the epidemic.

He says although the Caribbean is on the way to becoming the first region to eliminate mother-to-child transmission by 2015, the reality of an AIDS-free generation, while not impossible, is still some distance off.
