VYBZ KARTEL TRIAL: Murder trial enters third week

Published:Monday | December 2, 2013 | 9:40 AM

The murder trial of entertainer Vybz Kartel and four others enters its third week, with defense lawyers expected to continue their cross-examination of the the key prosecution witness today.

Kartel is jointly charged with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell also known as Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, Shane Williams and Andre St John for the August 16, 2011 murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

Williams was allegedly killed over two missing guns.

A 12-member jury is hearing the case in the Home Circuit Court, with Justice Lennox Campbell presiding.

The witness has already spent four days on the stand as a battery of defense lawyers continue their attempts to hammer at his credibility.

When the matter adjourned last Friday, the witness told attorney-at-law Tamika Harris that he was not afraid of Kartel but his friends and what they could have done to him.

Harris is representing Andre St John.

She was questioning him about his testimony that he was running from Kartel on August 16, 2011 and after that he stopped a taxi and went with the deejay to a hospital to dress a dog-bite.

The attorney pointed out to the witness that he had said that he waited on Kartel outside in the hospital yard and then went back with him in a taxi to a guest house in Havendale.

The witness testified last week that after he jumped the gate at Kartel's house and was being chased by the entertainer, he saw the deejay hopping and said his pit-bull bit him and he wanted to go to the hospital.

The witness has repeatedly denied suggestions that he fabricated a story with the help of the police to implicate Kartel and the other accused.

Harris will continue her cross-examination when the matter resumes this morning.
