A motorist who attempted to bribe a policeman with $2,000 as a way to avoid prosecution has been fined $25,000 or six months' imprisonment.

Thirty-eight-year-old Howard Reid of Fraser's Content, St Catherine pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s court today.

The matter was heard by Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green.

The court heard that the accused was spotted along March Pen Road in the parish and a check of the vehicle revealed breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

He was being prosecuted for the offence when he offered a bribe to a policeman.

The motorist was subsequently charged by Special Corporal Jason Bailey.
