OCR warns parents to be vigilant during holiday season

Published:Wednesday | December 25, 2013 | 8:21 AM

The Office of the Children’s Registry (OCR) is encouraging parents and guardians to ensure that children receive adequate adult supervision during the holiday season.

The OCR’s warning follows reports this week of the drowning of two children who the OCR said appeared to have been unsupervised at the time of their deaths.

The OCR notes that during the busy Christmas period, many persons will be out shopping, celebrating and indulging in other activities that will demand a lot of time.

However, all adults are being reminded to ensure that they act responsibly and in the best interest of our children.

The OCR is reminding parents and guardians that they may be charged up to $1.5 million or face up to five years of imprisonment, or both if they do not take precautions to protect their children from drowning and other harm.
