CRICKET: Windies look to rebound in ODI series against New Zealand

Published:Wednesday | December 25, 2013 | 8:36 AM

The five-match one-day international series between West Indies and hosts New Zealand begins in Auckland begins today.

The match is scheduled to start at 8 o’clock Jamaica time.

The West Indies will try to rebound from their disappointing Test series against New Zealand. The Caribbean side lost the three-match series 2-nil.

West Indies will be without three of their most experienced players for the series.

The Jamaican pair of explosive opener Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels along with Kieron Pollard of Trinidad and Tobago are missing through injuries.

Gayle is suffering from a hamstring, Pollard a knee injury and Samuels a chronic right-wrist injury.

Bravo said the three players will be missed, but he is expecting the young players to rise to the occasion based on what has transpired at the training sessions.
