NWU contemplates legal action against Lamasa

The National Workers’ Union (NWU) said it is considering taking legal action against Lamasa Limited to recover sums owed to workers whose posts were made redundant.

NWU President Vincent Morrison said the union is frustrated that no progress has been made to settle the matter.

The positions of 140 workers were made redundant in October and last December, more than 400 workers were sent home.

The Ministry of Labour has been meeting with the parties but the discussions have not yielded any positive results.

Morrison said the union is to hold discussions with its attorneys to decide on the best course of action.

The former Lamasa workers are owed notice pay, redundancy payments and allowances.
