Texaco dealers with suspended contracts to be compensated by GB Energy

Texaco dealers returned to work this morning after reaching a deal with GB Energy, the local operator of the Texaco brand in Jamaica.

The dealers had been on strike since Monday.

Following lengthy discussion last night the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association said it received letters of commitment from GB Energy that it would make compensatory payments to the three dealers whose contracts were not renewed.

Association president Derrick Thompson says the company has also committed to renewing the contracts of the other 25 Texaco dealers.

The contracts expired last November but were extended to February 28.

Thompson notes that dealers are pleased with these commitments and have therefore decided to suspend their strike action.

He says meetings are to be held this week to work out a formula for the payments as well as a framework for the renewal of the contracts.
