KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) has added its voice to the growing condemnation of comments made by Member of Parliament for South West, St Catherine Everald Warmington.

Speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party Area Council Two conference in Spanish Town on Sunday, Warmington said people who do not vote do not count.

Warmington further said such persons should not expect to get any benefits from his office.

PNPYO General Secretary Cammaleta Harrison described the comments as barbaric and reminiscent of the old style of politics.

Harrison is expressing disappointment that Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness, who was present at the meeting, has not rebuked the South West, St Catherine MP over the remarks.

The PNPYO General Secretary says Warmington should realise that he has a responsibility to all his constituents and not only voters.

She says the organisation is calling for Warmington to withdraw the comments.

Warmington has said that he is standing by his remarks.
