Ganja seized in Westmoreland, five Costa Ricans among arrested

Lawmen attached to the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division says they seized more than 2,800 pounds of ganja during operations in Westmoreland on Monday and yesterday.



The operation also resulted in the arrest of 11 persons for Breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Firearms Act.



The police say five Costa Ricans who are believed to have entered the island illegally are among those arrested.



The police say items believed to be used in the Guns for Drugs Trade, were also seized.



The items included a Smith and Wesson point 45 pistol, eighteen 200-litre drums containing gasoline, and a point 357 Magnum revolver.



The names of the persons arrested are being withheld.
