ST CATHERINE, Jamaica:

The St Catherine South police have laid charges against four men held in an alleged car-stealing ring.

The men were charged today with larceny.

Investigators say their names are being withheld as they are being investigated in relation to other crimes.

The four accused were taken into police custody last Friday.

Police investigators believe the alleged car stealing ring is being operated between Old Harbour and Clarendon.

They say they have recovered two cars so far.

It is understood that the cars were stolen from the Aviary Housing Scheme in Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Investigators say the mastermind behind the car stealing ring is believed to be among those in custody.

It is also believed that he used intimidatory tactics to lure others in the illicit activity.
