Firearm seized in St James, suspects escape

One Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol was seized by the police in Irwin, St James last evening.



Reports from the Granville Police are that about 9:10 p.m., a team of officers was on patrol on Hurlock main road when they signaled the driver of a Toyota Corolla motorcar to stop, the driver complied, however, while approaching the vehicle; men aboard opened gunfire at them and sped away.



The vehicle subsequently crashed minutes later and the men made good their escape. A search of the vehicle revealed the weapon containing six 9mm cartridges, several cell phones, a box containing bottles of liquor, and cash among other items.



Investigations continue.
