KINGSTON, Jamaica:

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says her administration is committed to bringing the much talked about logistics hub to fruition and ensuring that Jamaicans benefit from the initiative.

Emphasising that Jamaica is well positioned to become successfully lodged in the global trade, the Prime Minister says there is a role for all sectors to play in the successful creation of the hub.

She says as a policy, the Government will ensure that opportunities will be available to local firms, in particular those in the small- and medium- and micro-enterprise sector.

She notes that it is up to everyone to explore the opportunities that will become available to the private sector.

Seeking to allay fears that the majority of jobs will go to foreigners, Simpson Miller said the onus will be on Jamaicans to focus on making sure they are prepared for the opportunities to come in areas such as information and communications technology.

She was speaking at this morning's opening of the two-day Jamaica Logistics Hub Symposium at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston.
