INTERNATIONAL: Britons to face arrest on return from Syria

Published:Saturday | January 25, 2014 | 6:50 PM

A top police official in the United Kingdom (UK) has announced that British nationals returning from Syria will be stopped at border crossings and could face arrest.

Chief Constable of the Greater Manchester Police Sir Peter Fahy, who made the announcement, says there were huge concerns that Britons returning home after fighting in Syria posed a threat to the UK.

The biggest concern, Scotland Yard says, is that some could return as terrorists.

Police in the UK say 16 people were arrested this month on suspicion of terror offences after travelling between Syria and the UK.

This compares with 24 all of last year.
