CRICKET: Sri Lanka pile up massive 730-6 declared to take charge against Bangladesh

Mahela Jayawardene is now Test cricket´s sixth-highest run-getter after scoring a glorious unbeaten double-century to lead Sri Lanka closer to an overwhelming victory in the first Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.



The veteran right-hander made 203 not out, his seventh double century as the tourists piled up 730 for 6 declared at the close of day three after resuming the day on 375 for five.



Kithuruwan Vithanage joined the run-spree with an unbeaten 103 as Bangladesh conceded their highest ever total, surpassing the 648 for 9 by the West Indies in Khulna in November 2012.



Having gained a mammoth lead of 498 runs, Sri Lanka then reduced Bangladesh to 35 for one in nine overs before stumps.



Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath, brought on after three overs, struck with his third delivery by dismissing Tamim Iqbal for 11.



Scores in the match so far are – Bangladesh 232 and 35 for one; Sri Lanka 730 for six declared.
