Ed Bartlett rejoins JLP Shadow Cabinet
East Central St James Member of Parliament, Edmund Bartlett is back in the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Shadow Cabinet.
The JLP announced his return this afternoon, days after Opposition Leader Andrew Holness declared that his recent leadership challenger, Audley Shaw, had returned as Finance Spokesman.
Bartlett, who had supported Shaw in his failed leadership bid last year, is now the Shadow Cabinet as the spokesman on Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade.
Previously, he was the spokesman on tourism.
However, that portfolio was assigned to North East St Ann MP Shahine Robinson, after the JLP leadership election.
At the time, Bartlett was invited to serve as Opposition Spokesman on Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, but he did not accept the offer.
"We are delighted by his return and look forward to his diligent effort," Holness said in a statement this afternoon.
"Mr. Bartlett is no stranger to senior positions within the party and the Opposition. He is the chairman of the Party's Internal and External Affairs Committee where he leads in efforts aimed at forging and cementing ties between the JLP and like-minded political parties in other countries," Holness said.
The Opposition Leader says given Bartlett's experience and dedication to the JLP and people of Jamaica, he is confident that he will bring into sharp focus a number of issues that are critical to Jamaica's development and diplomatic relations with other countries.
Meanwhile, Bartlett, said he is pleased to rejoin the Shadow Cabinet.
"There is consensus on the way forward and a firm resolve to work assiduously in securing victory for the JLP in the next general election," he said.
