Administrators at Crosskeys High in south Manchester have started a scholarship fund in a bid to help more of its students pursue tertiary education.

The Caleb and Barbara Walters Scholarship Fund was named in honour of a former principal and his wife.

The school says the intention is to provide a scholarship of $300,000 to a successful applicant.

It also says the Fund will be used to provide grants in the amounts of $50,000 to students in need.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has lauded the school for its effort.

Thwaites says it is important for all stakeholders to contribute to the development of students.

He pledged to match the money raised by the school for the scholarship fund and lend his assistance in any way possible.
